Follow these instructions to keep your CEREC crown looking and feeling its best.
Have you just recently turned to our Fenton MO family dentists at Kemlage Family Dentistry? If so, Drs. Thomas and Andrew Kemlage can provide you with multiple dental services, including CEREC same-day crowns. If so, then we know just how important it is for you to maintain your restoration and to keep it healthy. Here are some tips to follow to provide your CEREC crown with what it needs to last for many years.
Brush and Floss Every Day
Just because a crown can’t develop decay doesn’t mean that you can get lazy with your oral care routine. You still need to be brushing twice a day and flossing daily, including the crown, to get rid of bacteria and food particles that could harm neighboring teeth.
Nix Habits That Could Damage Your Teeth
While our Fenton CEREC dental professional prides himself on creating CEREC crowns from durable, long-lasting ceramic, even the strongest restorations have a limit. You want to be kind to your crown just as you would your natural teeth. Do you grind your teeth at night? Do you chew your pen during the day? Do you use your teeth to rip things open when you should use scissors? All of these habits could damage your CEREC crown or eventually knock it off. Only use your teeth for speaking, chewing food, and biting.
Avoid Hard or Sticky Foods
Again, Fenton CEREC crowns are incredibly strong, just like real teeth, but we all know that they have their limits. To prevent your crown from cracking, breaking, or coming loose, you’ll want to avoid crunching ice or biting down into hard candies. Sticky foods like caramels can also loosen the crown over time, so you may want to forget these treats. You don’t have to miss out on the foods you love but just play it safe when it comes to your crown.
Visit Your Dentist Regularly
To make sure that your smile and crown remain healthy you should still see your dentist every six months for cleanings and checkups. It’s during these appointments that we can pinpoint problems and treat them early, deep-clean your teeth to make your crown sparkle, and address any concerns or issues you may have.
